I am in a dilemma. I have an offer from a small company that does very interesting work with flash and c++. My other option is a large financial firm in NYC. I like finance as well as technology and am torn between the two choices. Has anyone been in this situation before?

What are your long term aims?
Forgive the cliche but I'd follow your heart not you head, you don't get that many chances to choose.
On a practical level can you replicate your small company work, turn it in to a template and market it wide enough.

One of my co-workers has a comment he likes to share that I think is apt. He used to work for a smaller company doing a job that he loved, now he works for a relatively large company.
Why? "At least the check never bounces"
If you think the smaller company will be able to keep your salary, and you will be able to hold on to any retirement benefits you have, you don't really have to worry about it.

If you're just starting out, I'd go with the small company. Even if they fold up after a few years the experience should make it easy for you to find a new job. Big corporations are SJ central with all sorts of annoying rules and bureaucracy.

Sens, he says he's an SP.Oh, well, in that case go with the large company. Higher likelyhood of finding hot women. ;)

No, but I would choose the smaller company regardless of the paycheck strength. It would be a more flexible environment, probably more interesting and you might actually feel like your contribution has some merit.

I prefer small companies, myself. You have a lot more latitude to direct things when you need to, IOW you actually have a little bit of a say in things. But yeah, just do what seems the most right to you, don't sell out for a slightly larger paycheck if your new job doesnt use your talents and allow you to be creative.

The only good thing about a large company is job security.

That's certainly true. From my experience, larger companies already have so many systems and procedures in place, everything is just so controlled. Some people like that, though.
