Just an interesting slide show about fingernail health.

I was looking up what the lunula (half moon) means, and found that if you do not have a lunula on your thumb, it might mean a protein or zinc deficiency.

My poor toe. I kicked it extremely hard last week. The entire nail turned purple. Then I kicked it again tonight.
BTW, it's yellow from the injury, not poor health.

Perhaps this belongs in the "girlie" thread, but sculptured nails is the one girly thing I always do. I do it because I'm lazy... I get the pink and white power so the look lasts until I get a chance to go back and it doesn't chip.

You gonna get to pull that thumb-toenail off! Thats always fun!
My friends kid kept referring to his Finger Gums. Took mama a while to realize he was talking about his Cuticle.

hey can someone tell me why i have a small spot of white on one of my nails?I read somewhere that it was because of an old injury. If thats the case why dont i have one on all of my nails, coz im pretty rough with them.?
Ruffles have ridges and so do my nails! *sobs* Div, thanks for the visual, darling.

I dropped a log on my big toe yesterday so it's bruised purple, but other than that, all is well.
Good thing to keep in mind, however... ;)

I do not have a camera right now, but I want to ask someone about two of my toe nails. They have lost their shape and look like horns coming out of my toes.

Nothing has creeped me out lately as much as those spoon-nails creeped me out.
Eeeewwww.
That said, one time I ice-skated a couple hours in skates that didn't fit and a week later one of my big toe nails turned color and came off. Totally gross...and kinda neat.

Phew, none of my nails look like that, although they all have ridges and grow rather jaggedly. They always have.

I have 'Terry's nails', they even have slight crease marks because they bend so easily. And the occasional white spot, both are likely due to zinc deficiency (and perhaps other nutrients).

Once in a while, I notice a Beau's Line on my left thumnail. I think my left thumb is malnourished.

At the base and edges of my nails where it meets the skin, there's a blackish tint on a few finger and toenails. I think this is from some vitamin deficiency, possibly C.
When something puts too much pressure on the skin on my hands, it immediately puffs up like a blood blister (looks like a blood red wart, size varies). I know this is from a vitamin deficiency, but i can't do anything about it right now. It can erupt just from putting my socks and shoes on, or hitting my hand against something. If I don't let the blood out, it will be very tender, and I won't be able to do much with that hand.
