Before I launch into what I foresee will be a long-winded dialogue about an idea that occurred to me the other day, I would like to make a few disclaimers:

This is my first thread and I apologize if I violate any INTPc code or if this is in the wrong subforum. I also want to apologize if I come off as pretentious in my diction, it is certainly not my intent to sound like a jackass pretending to be smart, but I have a lot of caffeine in my system at the moment and my thought pattern is a little more erratic/eccentric than it normally is, (which is still probably much more unusual than the "average" person, if such a standard exists). The absurd quantities of caffeine also would explain the anticipated typos I will commit (I am sure there will be a few that I will miss). Hopefully you can make sense of what I am saying.

I also realize that I will use the word experiment in a very non-scientific manner. This is not because I am anti-science or because I am Sarah Palin and I think words can have whatever meaning you want them to have (or perhaps none at all in her case). I use the word experiment because I think it is the best word for my process of "this sounds cool I wonder what will happen as a result".

I will now discuss the idea that occurred to me, but it requires a bit of background information about myself.

I currently attend a community college in Southern California, mainly because of a paralytic apathy I exhibited in high school that made me not realize the importance of applying to good universities, but also because it is a helluva lot cheaper than completing undergraduate studies at a four-year university.
In making the choice to attend a community college (which I will refer to as a CC from this point on), I made certain sacrifices. In my elementary school years, I was identified early on as "gifted", and subsequently segregated from the "unwashed masses" by means of various educational programs (GATE, Honors, AP). After existing in such an environment for such an extended period of time, I experienced a sort of culture shock when I first started attending my local CC. A great portion of the people I encountered seemed to go about their lives with a very narrow view of the world around them and even a narrow view of themselves. They certainly do not seem to live the "examined life" that I have taken upon myself to strive for. Instead, they are content to go to class, barely pass, get drunk on the weekend, and have lots of casual sex just for the lulz. I am not saying I live a monastic life, physical pleasures certainly have their place, but I feel as though they are missing out on certain intellectual pleasures that I so thoroughly enjoy. They do not question basic assumptions, nor attempt to look at issues from multiple viewpoints in order to achieve more comprehensive understandings of said issues. In short, they are rather one dimensional. It was in response to my observations of this group of CC attendees that I formulated a plan.

My plan is simple. Some may consider it vandalism. I consider it an experiment in expanding and enhancing people's perceptions of reality and encouraging them to question fundamental assumptions. You are probably thinking to yourself, "This guy is going to taint the water supply with LSD". No. My plan is much more cost efficient and less invasive.

I would like to put up posters around my CC, simple, 8 1/2 X 11 pieces of printer paper with large, plain font, that say nothing meaningful at first glance (I will give an example in a second). The goal is that the statements on the posters, at least at first glance, will be so absurd on the surface that it will make the reader actually pause and think, "WTF does that mean?"

However, I would like a less obvious meaning to be contained in the statements to be revealed upon further analysis of the gibberish I display. How would I accomplish this, you may ask? Ideally I would like to construct various seemingly nonsensical metaphors or symbolic statements that would make the reader realize, after some thought, that the initial appearance obscured the true meaning, and that their assumption derived from the first observation (this is meaningless) was in fact, false.

I shared this idea with a close friend of mine and she told me that her mom had done something similar when she was in college. Her mother, (I will refer to under the pseudonym "Pam"), went around her college putting up flyers that read "Who did that to the river?" At first no one knew what to make of the flyers. There certainly was no river nearby that they could be referring to. Later, the readers became angry. Their lack of comprehension turned to violence, and they tore the flyers down in frustration. Pam concluded that the human race is just screwed.

Perhaps Pam's experiment proves that mine will be destined to fail. I think not, because I intend my statements to have a certain hidden meaning, and not simply by meaningless "WTF?" statements.

What exactly the statements will be, I have yet to decided (I just thought of this whole thing two days ago). Also, I am not sure what people's reactions will be to this experiment of mine, or what my next step will be once I observe their reactions, largely because it will depend on the nature of the reaction.

Any ideas, thoughts, comments, or criticism of my idea will be appreciated. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read all of this and I hope that at least some of it made sense.
