Default Is there anything that's worth dying for?

Is human life the ultimate good, or are there ideals that supersede its value? Could there be people, things or ideas that we should feel justified laying our lives down for? If there are? What are they?
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man. " Bertrand Russell

Yes, every man should be prepared to die for his King. Beyond all doubt.

I don't know. The only things I can think of that come close are my brother, and my SO.

Assuming I agree, what true kings are left, in this age ?

Every European has a rightful lord. Mine is Duke Franz of Bavaria, Francis II of England, Scotland etc., King of Bavaria, by reason of him being the Head of the House of Stuart.

I don't really care what non-Europeans do much.

I'd be interested to hear your rationale.

I don't think I'll be thinking of death at the time of my risking my life. If it's that important, my T will probably have long gone.

I don't plan on dying, I'll die one day.

I don't believe in anything enough to die for ideas, I don't think it's rational. I can't imagine any situation where the loss of my life would matter. If I die for ideals, what good is that to me or anybody else?

My opinion might change if I ever have a family, but for now, that's it.

If you wouldn't die for anything, then what would you live for? (That's not really a question. Just a thought.) I'd be extremely careful about throwing my life away, but if I felt like it was right at the time, I would do it. I mean, yeah, I can obviously get way more done if I'm alive. But if something was important enough, I guess I'd pay the price.
