i saw that recently too. i was really looking forward to it.

it was disappointing, but the fault probably lies equally between my building it up in my mind beforehand as much as it does with the movie itself. it did have parts in it that i liked. for instance, when the main killer (sugar) goes into the gas station and has the guy pick heads or tails, and when he picked heads (what i'd picked), the moment was so intense that when it turned out to be the life-saving decision, i was relieved.

however, it moved too slowly in parts, and those moments plus many that seemed irrelevant, gave me the impression that they couldn't come up with something interesting, so those parts were added as 'time fillers'.

again, i probably just built it up too much. i really like tommy lee jones, and usually always like movies that he chooses to be in, and so i expected more from his being in it. then there's the fact that most movies i've seen in the last couple years have been shit. so, i think i put too much pressure on this one.

it did have good parts. but, not enough for me to watch it again, which is something i do when i like something because i like seeing things i missed the first time and analyzing a movie i enjoy.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I always go to see Coen Brothers movies, without even checking to see what its about. I'm more likely to be blindly loyal to a director than an actor, though.

Poor old Cuba Gooding has been turning up in some stinkers lately. He must be down to stems and seeds.

PatLabor: The Mobile Police - Anime about big robots, and the women who love them. Underdeveloped and dull in places due to PG sensibilities. Not bad though.

The series is better, but maybe not if you're in it for the giant robots. They're just the backdrop.

Can't imagine I'd be arsed to watch a series. I was hoping for a bit more of a Ghost in the Shell style. I don't have any particular attraction to giant robots.

Your British slang escapes me- does that mean you would, or would not watch a series?

It's really nothing like GITS, you're right about that. The series is even less so IIRC. It's more interpersonal stuff between the team members or something. It has been about ten years since I watched it.

It's meaning in this sense is the same as 'bothered'. Not being arsed = not being bothered.

Ocean's Eleven (the remake):

Full review: Meh.

Addendum: the Debussy was nice, though I'm really hoping I don't think of Brad Pitt's mug every time I hear 'Clair de Lune'... Chick Yeager crashing an NF-104A is much more poetic.

Has anyone seen Beowulf? I want to see it but I don't want to waist my money if it turns out to be another movie where they change everything around and therefore crap.

I heard it was pretty bad, and that they did change everything around. My source of this news also said it was pretty corny in multiple cases, and this dude is actually pretty nice when it comes to criticizing things.
